In an unexpected display of admiration, a group of energetic youths from Lafia “ambushed” a well‑known community figure recently, presenting him with a hand‑crafted portrait and pledging continued support for his efforts in youth and talent development.

The impromptu gathering, led by Rabiu Isiyaka – popularly known as “Daba” and a staff member of Nasarawa United FC – converged on the individual’s location late in the afternoon. “We have been your admirers and supporters from a distance, and we will keep backing you,” Isiyaka told the honoured guest, according to witnesses.

The portrait, described as “beautiful” by those present, was handed over amid cheers and laughter. The recipient Amos Eche, who is the PRO of the Ministry of Youth and Sport Development Nasarawa State  expressed humility at the gesture. “Walahi, I am so honoured and appreciative for this kind gesture and recognition, even though I think I don’t deserve it,” he said, adding a prayer that Allah continue to reward such “great individuals for a better world.”

The youths, who identified themselves as a “purposeful” group committed to promoting youth empowerment in the area, cited the honoured figure’s “relentless support for youth and talent development” as the motivation behind the surprise.

Local observers noted that the event underscored the growing influence of community‑based initiatives in Lafia, with many hoping the positive energy will translate into further development projects for the town’s young people.

The portrait will be displayed at the recipient’s office as a reminder of the day a group of Lafia youths turned an ordinary afternoon into a memorable celebration of appreciation.
