…As Enikanolaiye, Akpabio, Governors Confirm Attendance
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, will lead a delegation of high-profile guests to the League of African Ambassadors Fundraising Golf Tournament scheduled for later this month in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Ambassador Ben Okoyen, confirmed that the former career diplomat will attend as a special guest. He will be joined by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and members of the diplomatic community.
Okoyen said more than 150 golfers are expected to compete, with total attendance projected at about 350 participants drawn from African diplomatic missions, corporate organizations, government agencies and the private sector.
“The aspect of interaction is more than the game. We expect far more than 150 persons. We are expecting in the neighbourhood of 350 or thereabouts,” Okoyen said.
Beyond the competition, organizers said the tournament is designed as a platform for networking and policy dialogue on Africa’s development. Business leaders and government officials are expected to use the event to engage directly with the diplomatic community.
Preparations are underway for the opening ceremony, the golf competition, the closing ceremony, fundraising activities, an awards dinner, and a showcase of Akwa Ibom’s cultural heritage.
Participants will begin arriving on August 28. The opening round is scheduled for August 29, with the finals set for August 30 at the Ibom Golf Course.
The choice of venue has drawn praise from golf stakeholders. Chairman of the FCT Golf Association, Akabom Enobong, described the Ibom Golf Course as one of the finest golf resorts in West Africa, citing its serene environment and suitability for high-level engagements.
He said the location offers an atmosphere for relaxation, strategic thinking and conversations away from the pressures of Lagos and Abuja.
Okoyen added that the tournament is part of a wider League of African Ambassadors initiative focused on promoting solidarity, dialogue and the advancement of African interests.
Registration and corporate partnerships remain open. Trophies will be presented to winners across several categories.
Organizers also announced incentives for participants, including return flight tickets to London, Barbados and Ghana, supported by Ibom Air, Air Peace and Arik Air.
