Nasarawa United has confirmed its spot in next season’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 3-2 victory over nine-time league champions Enyimba FC at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
The win, which came with a game to spare, saw the Solid Miners leapfrog to ninth position with 52 points from 37 games.
Shina Kumater gave Nasarawa United an early lead in the sixth minute, and Anas Yusuf doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 30th minute. However, Enyimba reduced the deficit just before halftime when Utake Emmanuel scored an own goal. Chikamso Okechukwu leveled the score from the spot in the 62nd minute, but Nasarawa United’s Idris Ajiya scored the winner in the 65th minute, securing a crucial victory for his team.
Following the match, Nasarawa United’s technical adviser, Salisu Yusuf, expressed relief and gratitude, saying, “Wow, this is a great result for us, especially when you play against a big team like Enyimba who were eyeing a continental ticket off us here.” He praised his team’s performance, particularly in the first half, and appreciated the support of their fans.
In a related development, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State redeemed his pledge of N2 million to Nasarawa United, which was made after the team’s 2-1 win over Lobi Stars in Enugu four days prior to the match against Enyimba. The State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, presented the redeemed pledge to the club’s chairman, Mr. Solomon Babanjah, before the match.
Nasarawa United’s next match will be against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on the final day of the season.
