The Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) is set to play a crucial role in preparing players for the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC) in Accra, Ghana.
According to Chief Convener Emmanuel Egbele, the fifth edition of EEAST will serve as a vital platform for players to showcase their skills and potentially represent Nigeria at the global championship.
Despite the expected presence of top players, Egbele assured that new players would have their own category to compete in. The tournament features three categories: Challengers (rating 1299 and below), Elites (rating 1300 and above), and Sages (for veteran players).
A total cash prize pool of 5 million naira has been placed on the table, with a star-prize money of 700,000 naira. The EEAST is scheduled to take place at the Eko Hotel and Suites from July 5 to 6, 2025.
The Nigeria Scrabble Federation will be scouting for top players to represent the country at the WESPAC championship in November 2025.
The tournament’s significance is heightened by the fact that WESPAC is coming to Africa for the second time, and Nigeria aims to make a strong impression on the global stage.
