Nasarawa Amazons Football Club continued their impressive run in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Ekiti Queens at the Lafia City Stadium.
The match, which was part of the matchday 4 fixtures, saw both teams create scoring opportunities in the first half, but neither could find the back of the net. However, the hosts came out stronger in the second half, with Ojiyovwi Kesiena breaking the deadlock in the 62nd minute.
Janet Akekeromowei, who had been struggling to find her scoring form, added the second goal just two minutes later, securing a vital win for Nasarawa Amazons.
The victory takes Nasarawa Amazons to the top of the NWFL premiership table with 9 points from 4 matches, keeping their dreams of a spot in the super six alive.
Reacting to the win, Coach Christopher Danjuma said, “The league is a growing competition, and we came out stronger in the second half to push and get the goals. We need to work on team cohesion and team redeem.”
Nasarawa Amazons will now travel to Benin, Edo State for their next match against Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
