…Threatens Sports Academy Contractor With Revocation
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, has expressed satisfaction with the professional disposition and project execution approach of the Contractor handling the renovation work of the State’s Youth Centre located in Akwanga.
During a scheduled visit to the facility on Thursday, the Commissioner who was accompanied by the Ministry’s Directors of Facilities and Stadium Management, Yusuf Ahmad, and Umar Abubakar of the Youth Department, applauded the Contractor Engr. Iliyasu Hassan of Kreaco Engineering Nigeria Limited for working ahead of time to complete the task before the agreed period.
“I must say I am proud of what the Contractor is doing on the site.
“This contract was awarded to him just a few weeks ago by the Government, and from what you can see here, this is truly encouraging.
“We have been taken round all segments of the project by the Site Architect, which include remodeling of the multi-purpose hall, reconstruction of the kitchen, dining hall, guests rooms, drainage system, retaining wall, administrative offices, drilling of water borehole and general landscaping, and you will agree with me that what the Contractor has started is heartwarming.
“This is a task that is expected to be completed within four months, but from every indication, the Contractor has shown exceptional zeal and poise to finish it even before the stipulated duration.”
Yargwa said the project, after completion, would not only give youth of Akwanga a sense of belonging, but would generate huge revenue to the State as it would be opened for commercial use, adding that it was part of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s deliberate desire to set up infrastructure that could compete with the best around the globe, and as well ensure that youth of the State are in tandem with their counterparts around the world in all spheres.
Speaking earlier, Site Architect, Bala Tsaku, told the Government’s visitation team that their target was to meet the project specification and finish it within the time frame so it could be put to use immediately.
He noted that, though the task was herculean, the support from the Government and residents of the area has been tremendous, promising not to disappoint them.
Reacting to the development, Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Akwanga Chapter, Comr. Bello Samson, commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for being the first Governor of the State to give a facelift to the Centre after over forty years of its establishment, a development he said has given the Governor and his administration a special place in the hearts of youth and indigenes of the locality.
Comrade Samson noted that Akwanga and the entire Northern Zone of the State lacked a befitting arena to carry out mass activities, forcing them to hold such activities in other zones or in batches, describing it as inconveniencing.
He promised to join forces with his contemporaries to jealously guard and maintain the facility.
His position was corroborated by the Dan More of Mada land, Nuhu Ali Giwa, who said the project could not have come at a better time as the Local Government Area had lost a lot, both in hospitality and revenue as major events are taken to other areas with larger and more befitting venues rather than the ambience Akwanga and its environs provide.
Record has it that the Youth Centre in Akwanga was last renovated in 1988.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, has called on the Contractor in charge of the renovation of the Nasarawa State Sports Academy, Akwanga, Jazee Nigeria Limited, to rise up to the occasion by speeding up its completion or risk losing the job.
Yargwa made the disclosure when he inspected the site on Thursday.
Disatisfied with the progress of work, the Commissioner, urged the Contractor to immediately deploy all necessary tools to the site and complete it within the agreed period as the State Government would not condone any act of sabotage on projects it has mobilized contractors to carry out.
Scope of the project include remodeling of the Sports Academy’s Examination Hall, construction of a block of four classrooms, and construction of a dining hall.
Principal of Sports Academy, Akwanga, Williams Aloko, thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule for coming to the rescue of the School as it had suffered neglect from previous administrations.
He promised to support the Government and contractor to ensure the successful completion of the projects in order to return the School to its glory days.
Mr. Williams, however, pleaded with the Government to facilitate the fencing of the School to save it from those who have encroached on the land and thereby making learning difficult for the students.
