World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, is poised to make a statement in the women’s 100m event, having clocked a season’s best of 11.18s in Kingston just over a month ago.
Amusan’s participation in the 100m event has generated significant interest, with many expecting her to excel. However, she won’t have it easy, as talented athletes like Olayinka Olajide, who boasts a personal best of 11.15s, will be gunning for an upset.
The final day of the trials promises to be electrifying, with the men’s relay teams from Nigeria and Ghana set to clash. Both countries are vying for qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September. The relay events will feature the 4×400m, 4×100m, Medley, and mixed Relay races.
Other events that will captivate athletics enthusiasts include:
– Women’s 200m: Umukoro leads the field with her impressive 22.93s Season’s Best, but Nzeakor and Olajide will be challenging her for the top spot.
– Men’s 200m: Akintola, with a personal best of 20.23s, will face stiff competition from Olatunde and Itsekiri.
– Women’s 400m: Patience Okon-George, a multiple-time national champion, will be looking to retain her title against rising stars Anita Enaruna and Toheebat Jimoh.
– Men’s Long Jump: Charles Godfred, the reigning national champion, will aim to defend his title against other talented jumpers.
