The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN) has opened a camp for its para athletes in Lagos, ahead of several major international championships. The camp is being held with the full support of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
PCN President, Sunday Odebode, revealed that the camp is in preparation for a series of international competitions, including the World Para Championship in Santiago, Chile, the Para Athletics Grand Prix in India, and the qualifications for regional Para table tennis and wheelchair basketball.
“We are very pleased that the camping has opened for our Para athletes, but this would not have been possible without the National Sports Commission and the intentional leadership of both the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade,” Odebode said.
Odebode expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing technocrats to lead the sports sector. “We have not had it this good in the Para family, and we cannot overstress our gratitude to the President for putting our sports in the hands of true technocrats,” he said.
The PCN President emphasized that the early preparations would yield outstanding results at international competitions.
“The motivation and determination of our Para athletes have gone a nudge higher because of the kind of attention we are getting from the NSC, and the main goal is to smash an outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Los Angeles Olympics Games in 2028,” Odebode stated.
