The president of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federatio, (NWF) Dr Abdul Ibrahim has sent out a felicitation message to Christian faithfuls, stakeholders as the world celebrates Christmas.
In a statement Dr Ibrahim says: “On behalf of the board, coaches, referees, athletes of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, I want to felicitate with all Christians and stakeholders in weightlifting family on the occasion of Christmas and new year celebrations.
Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, is a unique event that defines humanity and establishes peace and brotherhood”.
Opining that the weightlifting family, congratulate all those involved in this auspicious event and wish them all the best.
The Weightlifting headhoncho added that “year 2022 has been a great one for weightlifting in the country with the success of 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July and the recently concluded 21st edition of the National Sports Festival, NSF in Asaba, Delta State.
At Birmingham, we came 4th in Weightlifting event with six medals, 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. It was a remarkable Games for us though there are still rooms for us to explore upward.
At Asaba early in December, Weightlifting event was held successfully to the glory of God Almighty”.
The president revealed that a total of 175 medals were won at the Festival with Delta State emerging champions.
Saying “We commend all the states that participated in Festival and we hope to have a fuller participation of all states in the next edition
Next year 2023, will be a busy one for us as we will be participating in several 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifications.
However we will begin the new year with a National Championship which will hold within the first quarter of the year”.
Dr Abdul Ibrahim, prays that as people celebrate and make merry, may the joy that comes with the season, the love shared and peace engendered remain solid in the collective progress of Nigerians as a people.
