Nasarawa United solidified their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with a thrilling 1-0 away win over Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Saturday evening.

The match-winning goal was scored by Garba Mohammed, who came off the bench in the 60th minute and netted the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute, securing Nasarawa United’s second consecutive away win this season.

The Solid Miners demonstrated their formidable form, remaining unbeaten in six out of seven games with five wins, one draw, and one loss. This impressive performance has earned them 16 points, putting them four points ahead of second-placed Enyimba FC, who have played one game less. Bendel Insurance, on the other hand, are struggling near the relegation zone with just six points from seven matches.

Nasarawa United’s head coach, Mangut Mbwas, expressed his delight over the win, praising his players’ fighting spirit and discipline. “It’s a thing of joy to get the maximum points, either home or away. Bendel Insurance were aggressive after drawing their last home game, but we stayed strong and pushed till the final minutes,” he said. Mbwas also credited the team’s motivation to the support received from the state government, club management, and fans.

Garba Mohammed, the match-winner, expressed his excitement over scoring the winning goal, saying, “Coming off the bench to score the only goal that gave my team the win today makes me feel truly excited. I am happy for my team, and we hope to keep winning because we are chasing a continental slot at the end of the season.”

The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, rewarded the team with N500,000 for their impressive performance. The club’s chairman, Mr. Solomon Babanjah, and a dedicated supporter, Mr. Peter Pepsy Anyebe, each contributed N200,000 to boost the team’s morale.

Nasarawa United will host Rangers International FC of Enugu on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Lafia City Stadium, before traveling to Lagos to face Ikorodu City a week later. The team will look to maintain their momentum and extend their lead at the top of the NPFL table.
