Some residents in Eredo local council development area, in Epe Division, have called on the Lagos state Commissioner for Police, Abiodun Alabi to investigate thoroughly the killers of Idowu Hamzat, a 36-year-old Ibadan based teacher, who died on the 10th of June, 2023.
Residents made the plea during separate interviews with our reporter in Eredo-Epe, on Thursday.
Mr Adewale Olaonipekun, a resident of Eredo, said that, he smells a rat and foul play, following the death of Hamzat.
Adding that the dead suffered vulnerability on the main road for like three days before the Nigeria police relocated the deceased body to mortuary.
Another resident, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi, urged the Lagos CP to investigate and interrogate the DPO, Noforija divisional police headquarters in Eredo lcda, on the death of Hamzat.
She said that for the days the deceased was laying fallow on the street, the Nigeria Police, Eredo quarters were called upon but decline given the deceased the needed attention.
“The Nigeria Police said that, it is not their duty to attend to the deceased but the responsibility of Eredo lcda.
“Also, the Eredo lcda chairman attention was called upon but he did not give the incident a priority.
“Not until the death of the deceased broke out on the internet before the Nigeria police came to vacate the deceased from the dead point to a mortuary,” she said.
She stressed further that both the DPO of Noforija police quarters and Eredo lcda Chairman needed to be investigated and interrogated on this case.
Similarly, Mr Jide Abdulahi, a resident, lamented at the shady act perpetrated by the DPO, Noforija quarters.
He said that a lot of atrocities have been going on at the divisional area that needed to be checked.
Abdulahi recalled an incident where a reverend sister(Alhaja-Eleha) was arrested and remanded in police custody for three days, also a rape incident that was suppose to be investigated thoroughly but the suspect was freed by the Noforija Police Station DPO.
Also, another case of landgrabbers who killed indigenes but was release unjustly by the DPO after arrest and many other cases that deserves punishment by law but the DPO discard those cases and freed the culprits.
“All these atrocities and abnormalities are discouraging and needed to be investigated at the Noforija divisional police station.
Earlier, Mr Deji Ogunsanya, a resident, called on the DPO of Noforija police station to stop illegal arrest of innocents people within the community and go in search for the killers of the deceased.
Ogunsanya also caution MUWON a vigilantee group at Eredo lcda to discharge their duties responsibly and stop breaching the ethics of the security profession around the council area.
According to an online publication, It was noted that the Lagos State Police Publlic Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that three suspects have been arrested and the suspects have been moved to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Command.
