…As Kenya, Ethiopia Dominate The Gold-Label Race
Edwin Koech of Kenya and Alemenseh Guta of Ethopia have emerged winners of the 2023 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The winners of the Gold-Label race carted away $50,000 in prize money for first place runners in both the male and female categories for ths Elite athletes.
The 42Km race flagged off at the National Stadium, Surulere with the finish line at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Edwin out ran 300 other runners in a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, 6 seconds to become champion of the 8th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. Coming in second place is Dekeba Shefa of Ethiopia(2:14:54) with Bernard Sang from Kenya(2:17:14) crossing the finish line in third place. They both went home with $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.

The female category saw runners from Kenya and Ethiopia dominating, as Alemenseh Guta from Ethiopia was the first to breast the tape. Second and third place went to Kebene Urisa(Ethiopia) and Naomi Maiyo(Kenya) respectively.
The first Nigerian woman to finish the race is Felicia Adetutu who finished 10th overall. For her effort she won for herself $2000 and N3 million respectively for both finishes.
Winners of the Gold-Label Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have automatically qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics marathon event.
